Now that we have Christmas behind us, with the New Year facing us, thoughts began to flow through my mind about what is next in this chapter of my life. I dare not make New Year resolutions because some way or another, failure hits within three months of the year. Consequently, I began praying; asking God what is His plan for me or maybe how to aid someone else’s dream or project to be a success this year.

“Servant” came in my spirit; “let this be a priority in your life.” I received this revelation from God on a positive note, knowing as I serve others, I’m serving Him. Jesus specialized in menial tasks that everyone else tried to avoid: washing feet, helping children, fixing breakfast and serving lepers. Nothing was beneath Him, because He came to serve. We must put on the apron of humility, to serve one another.

I know this is not a popular concept in the world today, but to please God, this is the path we must take. As a Pastor/Superintendent’s wife, one may think a servant’s role’s is beneath me, but the truth of the matter is that we should be even more of a servant.

Our attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ (Philippians 2:5). Are we willing to forget about ourselves long enough to lend a helping hand to someone? Are we usually more concerned about being served or finding ways to serve others? I began to examine myself thoroughly and fell short. Can you imagine if 10% of all Christians in the world would get serious about their role as a real servant? Imagine all the good that could be done. Let us be encouraged to be one of those people.

I’ll close with a famous motto by John Wesley, an incredible servant of God. His motto was “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you ever can”.
