Mother W.D. Livingston was a woman who touched countless lives through the ONE life she was given. One thing she was famous for was wearing a MEAN church hat. But if you will, allow me to share with you some of the many other hats she wore.

She wore the Hat of WISDOM:

Mother W.D. was full of godly knowledge and life experience

She had books galore and was like a never-ending well

If anyone could give the Virtuous Woman a run for her money

It was definitely her…I know you too could tell

She wore the Hat of FAITH:

My greatest example in life

Of a woman who trusted God with everything inside

Was Mother W.D., the faith-walker herself

Who showed me what it meant to “suffer long” and to, in Christ, always abide

She wore the Hat of DIGNITY:

Mother W.D. would never have allowed any talk

About her husband, her children, her church or her team

She walked with her head held high

No matter how tough for her things might have seemed

She wore the Hat of ENCOURAGEMENT:

Wherever you might happen to meet her

Whether in the grocery store, Lowe’s, or simply in her garden out back

Mother W.D. would always have an uplifting word to give you

A word that would guarantee a smile you would not lack

She wore the Hat of STYLE:

If you were to look into the closet of Mother W.D.

As I did often as a child

You might find yourself frozen in wonder

Because all of the hats, suits, purses, and shoes would seem to stretch for miles and miles

She wore the Hat of GRACE:

Mother W.D. was such a graceful being

A lady of such class through and through

And if you ever needed to see the grace of God in person

She would not hesitate to extend it to you

She wore the Hat of DISCIPLINE:

As all of her family and friends can tell you

Mother W.D. did not play

Whether you needed to straighten up physically or spiritually

There was either a “keen” switch, a ruler, or a Bible to aid what she would say.

She wore the Hat of MOTHERHOOD:

Mother W.D. was a true mother and a mother indeed

She kept house well through cooking, crafting, and hospitality

Whether biologically connected or through the heart

She left this world with 10 children plus many more in all actuality

She wore the Hat of HOLINESS:

She was the epitome of the true beauty of holiness

She personified the way God said we should live

Mother W.D. taught us all the right way from the Word of God

So that the legacy she leaves, to our children we can give

And TODAY, she puts on her last, the Hat of GLORY:

After all has been said and done

And Mother W.D. has demonstrated to us a life well-lived under this sun

She can now take her rest in glory

As she listens to those two treasured words: “Well Done, Well Done, Well Done.
